The local Soviets elected members to represent them at the supreme Soviet (a bit like the British Parliament) in Moscow. |
| SSSR | The new name of Russia given to it by the Communists in 1924. The more common term is the USSR. |

| Treaty of Versailles | Treaty signed in 1919 which officially ended the First World War. Germany had to accept blame for the war and severe restrictions on its armed forces. It also lost large amounts of territory. |
