General Haig - The Butcher of the Somme?
This lesson fits into the QCA Twentieth Century World unit covered in Year 9 and highlights both the role of a significant individual as well as using source evidence to challange an interpretation. It could also be useful for a popular coursework unit on interpretations of Haig at GCSE examined by AQA. Students should have some knowledge of the Battle of the Somme and this lesson can be used alongside the exhibition on The Great War.
